THE IDEA: As former collegiate athletes working in the finance world of New York City, we found that taking our clients to boutique fitness classes created a bond among the group that wasn’t possible in the usual wining and dining setting. Not only did this camaraderie remind us of our days of team sports, but we knew it could have a positive effect on individuals and groups alike. We knew this effect would be maximized in a truly team-based environment, so we turned this concept into a fitness experience for people looking to achieve maximum results, efficiently, while connecting with others and having fun.
THE PEOPLE: Three Long Island natives, we’re lifelong friends who teamed up to start this business together. As Founders, our goal is to shift the focus of fitness from “me” to “we” by using the team-based workout to harness the motivation, community, and accountability that make for a better experience.
Eric Posner, CEO, manages SWERVE’s finances and marketing. After graduating from Harvard with a degree in Psychology and Economics, he began his career as an Equity Sales Trader. It was then that he realized that his love for fitness extended far beyond the lacrosse field and he wanted to devote his career to sharing this passion with others. Through his positivity, ambition, and relentless hard work, Eric builds and boosts team morale every day at SWERVE and in all of his fitness endeavors around the city.
Chelsea Kocis, COO, oversees operations, business development, and marketing at SWERVE. She earned her degree in Economics at the University of Pennsylvania before beginning her career in Multi Product Sales and Institutional Equity Sales. In taking the entrepreneurial leap to start a business, Chelsea embodies the SWERVE tenet that choosing uncertainty over unhappiness is worth the risk when you believe in something so strongly. Chelsea’s poise and pragmatic nature keep the team grounded through every new challenge we take on.
John Henry McNierney, President, manages SWERVE’s expansion and real estate strategy, as well as all tech development, including our proprietary metric-tracking software. After graduating from Lehigh’s College of Business & Economics, JH worked in Foreign Exchange Sales. Always solutions-oriented, there’s no question JH can’t answer and nothing he won’t do for the sake of the team. His ability to maintain a balanced lifestyle is reflected in his calm demeanor and his bright disposition, bringing a contagiously positive energy to the team.
